DBH invests HUF 80m in Hungarian hygiene product Hand-in-Scan

DBH Investments has invested HUF 80 million in Clariton Ltd., the developers of Hand-in-Scan, medical hygiene tool that checks the efficiency of hand sterilization in the hospital environment. The product had previously won the LISAvienna MedTech Award for 2012.

Clariton Ltd., based in Debrecen, is a Hungarian developer of the biomedical equipment Hand-in-Scan, that uses ultra-violet light and digital imaging to visualize the effectiveness of hand-washing in medical environments. It highlights disinfected versus unaffected areas after hand rubbing, and provide an overall quality score to ascertain the effectiveness of hand-washing.Read more »

8 startups showcased at Startup Weekend Budapest as part of the Global Startup Battle

Startup Weekend has teamed up with the Kauffman Foundation on a new worldwide competition called Global Startup Battle. The event focused on having companies battle against each other in their respective Startup Weekend events.

Global Startup Battle is in its second year and this year has doubled in size from 67 events to 130. It will occur over the two weekends during Global Entrepreneuriship Week from November 9-11 and 16-18, and it it hopes that 1,200 new companies and startups will be created in just one week.Read more »

Reimagine Technologies received HUF 350m investment from Primus Capital

Remagine Technologies, specialised in energy efficiency, received an investment of HUF 350 million from Primus Capital. This is the eighth investment made by the Hungarian venture capitl firm, other portfolio companies include HYD, BBS Nanotechnology and Comforce Adfit.

Hungarian venture capital firm Primus Capital has invested HUF 350 mln into Reimagine Technologies, a company that has developed an energy-efficiency monitor that analyses and optimizes power consumption. The product, called SmartSocket, evaluates the amount of power consumed by various appliances and helps bring down costs for the user, as well as increases the safety factor of the entire system.Read more »

Prezi launches new interface, passes 15 million user milestone

Prezi, a popular alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint and other presentation applications, launched a new version of its interface today. The company, which is advised by Jack Dorsey, also announced that it has passed the 15 million user milestone.

For those not familiar, Prezi uses a map-like metaphor for creating presentations instead of a slideshow metaphor. This makes it possible to create non-linear presentations, or presentations that use spatial metaphors for organizing ideas, like mind maps. Read more »

20 startups presented at the first Seedcamp Budapest event

Seedcamp, one of the leading European accelerators arrived to Hungary for the first time with its Seedcamp Budapest event, where 20 startups got the chance to get mentored by both local and international experts. Read our summary of what happened during the event.

October 25 marked the first ever Seedcamp event in Hungary, Seedcamp Budapest. In association with the European Entrepreneurship Foundation (EEF) Seedcamp brought 70 of their mentors together to meet 20 of Europe’s top startups. The organisers had a very difficult task selecting only the twenty most promising ideas from the hundreds of applications they received to attend the event.
