For the first time ever, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is focusing on CEE-based entrepreneurs. From May 6-8 the NYCEDC, in partnership with iCatapult and STARTeurope, is hosting delegates for the 3-day Word to NYC (W2NYC) program.
The Big Apple’s tech scene is undisputedly thriving. Just yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg announced the “We Are Made in NY” campaign to celebrate and support the growing tech sector in NYC. There are more than 900 tech startups based in NYC. Budapest based iCatapult introduced its accelerator programme for startups, now accepting applications. iCatapult is a non-traditional technology accelerator with explicit focus on international business development and global market access from day one.
iCatapult held its global launch announcement yesterday in Budapest. They used the term “excelerator” to describe their activity: an accelerator that focuses on taking European technologies to global markets, primarily to the USA. Their activities reach well beyond the traditional few-month long mentorship driven programmes. iCatapult provides access to world class local and international mentors who oversee the development and international launch preparation of each technology and team. At DLD in Munich last week, Prezi CEO and Co-founder Peter Arvai revealed, that after announcing 15 million users last October, they are now on 18 million users. He said they are also course to book 2 million more users per month over the next year.
Prezi has come a long way since the days it was a struggling startup in Budapest building a new way for people to create presentations to blow the mind of an audience. Today they have over 100 employees and a San Francisco HQ. It’s become a popular alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint and Keynote, and the company is even now advised by Jack Dorsey.
