Hungarian startup Prezi, the cloud-based presentation platform that helps presenters connect more powerfully with their audiences, announced that its user community has grown to 40 million. The company, which attained 30 million users last October, has seen an average of more than 55,000 new signups each day for the last six months. Prezi pledged to contribute $100 million in software licenses to President Obama's ConnectED initiative to modernize classrooms. The Hungarian startup is the first European company to join a group of tech corporations putting $1 billion behind the programme.
Prezi, the cloud-based zooming presentation tool, which competes with Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote, is the latest technology company to join President Obama’s ConnectED Initiative to help the U.S. education system move forward into a more technology-centred world. At DLD in Munich last week, Prezi CEO and Co-founder Peter Arvai revealed, that after announcing 15 million users last October, they are now on 18 million users. He said they are also course to book 2 million more users per month over the next year.
Prezi has come a long way since the days it was a struggling startup in Budapest building a new way for people to create presentations to blow the mind of an audience. Prezi, a popular alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint and other presentation applications, launched a new version of its interface today. The company, which is advised by Jack Dorsey, also announced that it has passed the 15 million user milestone.
For those not familiar, Prezi uses a map-like metaphor for creating presentations instead of a slideshow metaphor. This makes it possible to create non-linear presentations, or presentations that use spatial metaphors for organizing ideas, like mind maps.
