Europioneers 2014 rewards the people behind European startups

Organised for the second year by the StartUp Europe initiative of the European Commission, the Europioneers 2014 competition aims at bringing visibility, raising awareness, and inspiring the whole European tech ecosystem. Nominations are open until August 31.

The Europioneers competition is an annual event organized as a part of Startup Europe and the European Commission’s Europe programme for Web Entrepreneurship. In 2013 over 1,200 nominations and 5,600 votes involving 28 European countries were recorded. The objective of the competition is to identify and recognise successful European web initiatives, to promote the role web entrepreneurs play in European society, and to encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs.Read more »

Bitcoin mining hardware firm CoinTerra has announced the acquisition of Bits of Proof, a Hungarian software firm that builds business-focused solutions based on block-chain technology. CoinTerra will gain access to all assets of Bits of Proof.

Bitcoin mining hardware firm CoinTerra has announced the acquisition of Hungarian Bitcoin startup Bits of Proof (BOP). Last year the company launched the BOP Enterprise Bitcoin Server, which it dubbed the ‘Red Hat for Bitcoin‘. The BOP protocol has already been used to develop BopShop, a merchant payment processor for online retailers and traditional brick-and-mortar shops. The protocol was also used to develop real-time auditable exchange Bullion Bitcoin and the TREZOR hardware bitcoin wallet.Read more »

Buildit, the hardware accelerator opens new application round

Hardware accelerator Buildit has opened a call for its second batch, investing up to 20,000 Euros per team. The 3 month programme starts on 15 September, applications are open until 20 July for hardware startups from across the whole world.

Buildit, the first hardware-focused accelerator in Northern and Eastern Europe, takes in up to 10 teams at a time. The startups receive funding of maximum €20,000 per team and help with prototype development. The hardware accelerator has opened a call for its second batch.Read more »
