Europioneers 2014 rewards the people behind European startups

Organised for the second year by the StartUp Europe initiative of the European Commission, the Europioneers 2014 competition aims at bringing visibility, raising awareness, and inspiring the whole European tech ecosystem. Nominations are open until August 31.

The Europioneers competition is an annual event organized as a part of Startup Europe and the European Commission’s Europe programme for Web Entrepreneurship. In 2013 over 1,200 nominations and 5,600 votes involving 28 European countries were recorded. The objective of the competition is to identify and recognise successful European web initiatives, to promote the role web entrepreneurs play in European society, and to encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs.

“Tech entrepreneurs are the secret ingredient to innovate Europe out of crisis. The amazing and inspiring finalists for Europioneers fill me with a lot of hope: Europe has what it takes to succeed,” – said European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes, during the first event’s edition.

The 2014 Award Ceremony will take place at The Summit in Dublin followed by a prestigious Gala evening with all our finalists, web leaders and investors to celebrate the successes of our Web entrepreneurs and looking forward to their bright futures .

This year’s competition has four Award categories. Web Entrepreneur Award: entrepreneurs creating new digital services and products, Young Web Entrepreneur Award: for web entrepreneurs below the age of 30, Female Web Entrepreneur Award: for female web entrepreneurs, and High Growth Web Entrepreneur Award: for entrepreneurs in a high growth company with and average yearly growth of 20% over a 3 year period.

With these new categories you also have more opportunities to participate at the event. Submit your nomination until August 31! On September 26, at the UnConvention 2014, we’ll discover the list of the finalists that could become the next web entrepreneurs of the year, but only November 3 we find out the names of the winners.

Last year Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss, the founders of Soundcloud won the prize for the best European Entrepreneurs, proving to the jury of tech experts how considerable was their dedication to the online field. The public voting and the panel of judges of tech illuminati also honored Jon Reynolds, the brilliant young businessman at the age of 22 behind Swiftkey with the Young European Entrepreneur award.
