Foodpanda announces expansion into ten cities across Hungary

Foodpanda, the leading food delivery platform by Rocket Internet from Berlin, announced its expansion into ten new cities in Hungary. The expansion comes shortly after the company secured more than $20 million funding from a group of investors in May.

With a strong presence and over 200 partnership restaurants in Budapest, leading group of online food ordering platform Foodpanda.hu now operates with additional restaurants in Pécs, Debrecen, Érd, Szeged, Székesfehérvár, Szolnok, Miskolc, Nyíregyháza and Tatabánya and Esztergom. This announcement comes three months after Foodpanda took over the services of competitor Ételvitel Ltd’s services and considerably consolidated its position in the Hungarian food delivery market.

The cooperation with Il Treno marks another important step in the acquisition of partners for Foodpanda. The Il Treno chain operates in Budapest from 5 delivery branches and offers both dine-in and home delivery. Aside from a broad variety of Italian pizza and pasta dishes, Il Treno’s menu also includes a number of Mexican dishes and other international specialties.

In the last months, Foodpanda together with its affiliated brand Hellofood expanded into 15 more countries and launched a mobile app for iOS and Android, which is already the leading food delivery app in most countries. Mobile orders are an important driving force behind sales for Foodpanda in Hungary. The iOs and Android applications, which were launched in May, already account for 10% of delivery orders. The Foodpanda.hu app continues to be the most downloaded food delivery app in Hungary both on iOs and Android devices.

Foodpanda currently cooperates with more than 15,000 restaurants across 27 countries worldwide, and is already market leader in the majority of the countries the company operates in. Foodpanda helps restaurants to increase sales through online and mobile platforms and provides them with constantly evolving technology and analytics. For consumers, the Foodpanda group offers an online marketplace with widest gastronomic range from which customers can choose on the online platform or via Foodpanda’s mobile app.
