Treasure hunt app Sighter among the 10 finalists of Barca Starta

Treasure hunt app Sighter got selected to be among the 10 finalists of the Barca Starta competition hosted by the Mobile Marketing Magazine. The Barca Starta provides an opportunity for mobile startups to pitch in front of a panel of experts on February 25.

It can be difficult it can be to get yourself noticed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, especially if you’re new to the industry. On February 25, Mobile Marketing Magazine is giving 10 of the best mobile startups the opportunity to pitch their business in front of an audience of VCs and mobile specialists. The Barca Starta competition gives each hand-picked finalist three minutes to showcase their expertise at the final.

The Mobile Marketing team has finally come to a decision and revealed the 10 finalists for the Barca Starta 2014. They received entries from as far afield as Jamaica, South Korea and Hungary, spanning apps, ads and everything in between, but had to narrow it down to just 10 companies. The winner will receive a €1,000 prize, a video interview for them to show the world their work and a splash in the following issue of Mobile Marketing.

The Hungarian team behind the mobile app Sighter made it to be among the 10 finalists. Sighter is a treasure hunt app that combines geolocation and photography to help people discover interesting sights. Whether the course is created by a friend, or a company, users are challenged to hunt down all of the places tagged in the app. Challenges are then saved on the Sighter platform for future use.

Hungarian startup Sighter have been really busy growing their startup over the last months. In May 2013 they won third place at the Budapest Bank Startup Competition, in June they finished Ryan Academy’s Propeller Venture Accelerator programme and were selected to participate in the StartupChile program. In December Sighter secured a round of funding from Enterprise Ireland.

The startup is just beginning to uncover the business potentials of its mobile application. Sighter shipped its first B2B product to Waterways Ireland’s Lakelands Initiative. The team created treasure trails in 10 of their touristic locations, in cooperation with heritage officers - resulting in true quality content.

The other finalists of the Barca Starta 2014 are: Adzuki Mobile, Alleantia, Capito Systems, Grabyo, Indelebile, Kolobee, TagPoints, Talkie, Warranty Vault. The 10 startups are now preparing their three-minute presentation to be made in front of a panel of industry experts and an audience of VCs in Barcelona on February 25.
